48 years old, married to Nick, mother to Sam, Jenny and Daisy. Our family has lived in Temple Cloud, just 12 miles from Bath, since 1990.
Once upon a time I was a student at Oxford University studying Classics and my tutors told me that that was an excellent training for any job............. so far that's meant working in a bookshop, running a pub kitchen (twice), running a catering business, being fund raiser for my old college, selling washable nappies (and yes, I used them for my own children) and now being co-owner of a small software business. Oh, and bringing up three children.
I joined the Labour Party in 1996, worked in the general election campaign in 1997 and have been busy politically ever since. After holding various Party posts locally I stood for election to Bath & N E Somerset Council and became a councillor in May 2003. Now I've been selected to fight the seat of Bath for Labour in the next general election. As a colleague put it "Labour's throwing its Hat in the ring"; hence the title to this blog!
And if anyone's wondering where the strapline "Be excellent to each other " comes from, it's from "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" - a very excellent film. It's also a good, comradely sentiment.
